In Spring 2022, Colin and Helen were honoured and proud to receive Mayoral Awards for their work in collecting, storing and sharing back the history of Heald Green through this website. We hope the content can be preserved for all former, current and future residents to enjoy for many years to come.
I'd like to take the opportunity once more to thank all current and former residents who have helped us with their memories, photos and documents. More detail on major collections contributed can be found on our Major Contributors page. Keep exploring your lofts!

I studied O and A level history at Cheadle Grammar School for Girls, gaining an A in both, but I have always loved history and hope that my enthusiasm for it rubs off. I can look at a photo and think - who was that? where was that? what's going on in the background? I can touch a building, a wall and close my eyes and be transported back there. My family think I am mad!

In spite of school careers advice that if I chose IT I'd end up in a windowless basement, I instead enjoyed a career in high, sunlit offices, managing people through large projects. After scanning and cleaning my old family photos and piano sheet music during lockdown, I thought - what would best combine my IT and scanning skills to give something back to the Heald Green?
- and here we are!

Design & Exhibits
I have been working in the creative arts industry as an artist and designer for the last ten years and have a huge passion for history, mythology and folklore. I have volunteered previously in local heritage projects using my skills to research, document and create exhibitions and displays for both private business means and public enjoyment. I believe strongly that history should be a conversation as much as it should be documented for posterity and enjoy making these stories and memories accessible to people who otherwise would not have considered the past to be interesting.
